Facilities:
The Coral Bay Club is a 52-year-old member-owned facility with 325 active members, 195 senior members and 40 members in other categories. Gross dollar volume is more than $2.1 million with food and beverage volume over $1 million. Facilities include a 21,000 square foot clubhouse with dining and bar areas, game room and locker rooms; three clay tennis courts and restroom facilities; two swimming pools and beach facilities; outdoor cabana bar; and boat dock, boat ramp, and boat storage area. The club is seasonal, open seven days a week during summer, the days a week in spring and autumn, and is closed November through March. The club is extremely active during season, and most of its membership live elsewhere in North Carolina and also belong to other prestigious private clubs.
Brief Job Description:
The club hosts a lot of wedding receptions and large events during the course of the 10 – 12 week internship; interns will get good first-hand experience in dealing with the tasks of multiple positions at the club, including a majority of:
• Banquet/wedding reception staff
• Lunch and dinner wait staff
With Wednesday rotations between:
• Front Office – Learning about different computer functions of the club software, also learning about administrative and reservation processes.
• Housekeeping – Keeping up with towel laundry for the pool deck and locker rooms and maintaining locker room cleanliness.
• Kitchen Staff – Working directly with the Executive Chef helping prepare for the Chef’s cooking class and Chef’s table(s) for the evening.
• Maintenance – Spending the morning with the Maintenance Department, observing and helping with various tasks around the club.
• Pool Sign-in – Signing in members and giving out towels from the pool sign-in desk on pool deck.
• Poolside Café – Casual short order lunch café, taking orders and basic cooking/preparation tasks.
With a country club down the street, interns also get a chance to spend time in golf and tennis pro shops and also with golf course maintenance staff working on maintaining the course.
The internship is designed to give a look at almost all of the different aspects of a private beach club throughout the course of the summer. Interns will work hard and learn a lot about the day-in, day-out workings of the club.
Qualifications:
Wait staff experience preferred.
Internship Details:
The internship is usually 10 – 12 weeks and the starting and ending dates are flexible.
Other Benefits:
It is a paid internship at $8.00/hour and housing is provided for $50 dollars a week, which is taken out of the weekly paycheck. Interns can also get meals from the club between shifts, which is also taken out of the weekly paycheck.
