"Darren Berkman began his hospitality career working at a young age for his father washing dishes. During his time in college, Darren worked for the Marriott Corporation as a banquet server. After graduating from Johnson & Wales in Providence, RI he returned to New York and began his management career with Marriott as an Assistant Banquet Manager. During his tenure at The Albany Marriott, Darren worked as an Assistant Restaurant Manager and the last three years was Banquet Manager. Darren has been in the club business for over 23 years and worked at TPC Piper Glen, The Peninsula Club, Rolling Hills CC, and is now back at The Peninsula Club. His club career started as an Assistant Food and Beverage Manger and is now currently the General Manager at The Peninsula Club.
Darren and his wife Stephanie have been married for over 20 years. They moved from upstate New York in 1999 and have lived in Huntersville, NC the entire time. They have two daughters, Averie who is 12 and Ashtyn who is 10. Darren enjoys spending his days off with his family and playing outside with the kids.
Darren has been part of CMAA since 2002. The Carolinas Chapter has been part of his family since he first began his club career. I remember starting off as a young manager and looking for help along the way. The “seasoned” managers were more than willing to assist in any way they could. This is what the Carolinas Chapter is about. It is now my time to help out the younger managers and show them what a great industry we are fortunate to work in."
