Education and Speaker Information
“Best Practices When it Comes to Budget Time” with Mitch Stump, CPA
(CMAA Competency: Accounting & Financial Management; Credits: 3 Chapter Education)

Mitchell L. Stump, CPA, one of the leading accountants serving the Private Club Industry, will lead three hours of interactive discussion that will be useful as your club works on the budget for next year. Mitch does not hesitate to challenge the status quo, often questioning why clubs do many of the same things, year after year, and expect different results. Thus, this session will be beneficial to all department heads.

Some of Stump’s musings that will be discussed:

  • Is your Board suggesting the club skip a year without raising dues?
  • Do budgeted expenses really have a direct percent correlation to the amount of dues income?
  • Is your club ignoring industry benchmarking statistics, using historical information only?
  • Where is a new “WOW!” found in each department’s budget?
  • Is there a budget item for a new book each department is planning to read as a group for 2016?
  • Is the daily training portion of each department’s budget adequate?
  • Is the club limiting non-member functions to only those that will be financial successes vs. busy work?
  • Is your club’s 20-year plan for capital asset acquisition and replacements up-to-date?
  • Should food minimums be replaced with golf guest fee minimums?
  • Will marketing dollars be used on members and prospects living or working with 15 miles of the club?
  • And, how do those pesky tax and privacy rules affect the budget?

"Plugging the Hole in Your Boat: Why Culture is Key to Keeping Your Team Afloat" with Rex Miller
(CMAA Competency: Human & Professional Resources; Credit: 1)
Why are half of employees happy but disengaged? Did you know there are probably 20% of your staff you are better off paying to stay home because of their toxic effect? Rex will share the key takeaways from his book Change Your Space, Change Culture: How Engaging Workplaces Lead to Transformation and Growth. His two years of research included more than 50 leaders working with some of the most engaging companies on the planet. You will hear how you can take these lessons and create the same kind of employee engagement that leads to transformation and growth.

"The 40 Minute Solution: A Way to Quickly Solve the Things that Keep You Up at Night" with Rex Miller
(CMAA Competency: Leadership; Credit: 1)
Every leader has key challenges that keep them up at night. The problem is that few have the luxury to check out for a day or two to clear your head and tackle them. What if you could leverage the collective insights of other leaders in a process that could create a breakthrough in just 40 minutes? That is exactly what we will do together. Bring your biggest challenges and you will learn a model that will not only tackle these problems during the workshop but will be a model you can take home to your staff. The 40 minute solution will allow you to stay on top of those big challenges and engage your team back home in a highly motivating approach to problems.

imgRex Miller is the Principal and Thought Leader for mindSHIFT. His books are: The Millennium Matrix, The Commercial Real Estate Revolution and Change Your Space Change Your Culture: How Engaging Workplaces Lead to Transformation and Growth.

He is currently leading the Hope Schools MindShift initiative to shift the dysfunctional narrative driving much of our national conversation around education reform. The consortium includes 45 organizations with more than 80 educators and practitioners.

Rex and his family live in the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex. He is married with three kids and three dogs.

Rex takes the fuzziness and mystery out of talking about culture and will show you how to elevate your culture to high performance with that winning edge.
