Mr. Silliman and Mr. Marshall will be sharing how the Carolina Yacht Club has embraced its history and how it is currently being showcased to the Members as well as visitors to the Club. CYC was founded in 1883 by young men wanting to share their interest in sailing and yacht racing. The history of the Club dates back to the Civil War… so don’t be surprised to know there are cannon balls displayed in the Clubhouse that were the same ones fired upon Charleston from Fort Sumter in 1861! You’ll learn how a Club’s history is a combination of the geographical area/city in which the Club resides along with the foundation of why the Club was established and its purpose going forward. Showcasing a Club’s history can be done in various ways… published books, flat artwork & paintings, decorations & furniture, etc. The gentlemen will share and show you what CYC has done and provide insights on how you can showcase your own Club’s history. |
